The Composition Road Map

Chances are that if you're here, you understand how exciting it is to write music.

The challenging part is establishing yourself as a composer.

That's why I have developed a strategy.

Weekly Lessons

Each week, we deepen the craft.

We will explore things like harmonic language (from tonal to post-tonal and modal systems), orchestration and color, motivic development and transformation, rhythmic complexity and polyrhythms, large-scale form and architecture, texture and density shaping, and techniques drawn from composers from Bach to Ligeti and beyond.

Additionally, we will focus on a tailored long-term strategy centered around crafting a portfolio that shows versatility, depth, and a clear artistic voice.

Professional Recordings

Throughout the academic year, I organize opportunities for my students to have their work professionally recorded by top-level musicians in my own network.

These sessions include a guided rehearsal and an audio/video recording of a specific piece of music.

Opportunity Tracker

There are hundreds of opportunities per year for a student composer to distinguish themselves.

For each student, I create a strategic game plan of opportunities that will serve as milestones in the creative process.

This serves to establish the student in the international composition network.

We will focus on achievable goals such as winning composition contests, finding commissions, and building an outstanding compositional resume, line by line.
